In my life, golf is everything. Dedication, controlling emotions, integrity, focus, hard work, spending time with my father as a kid, and with my kids when they were growing up… I grew up playing it from the age of 6, my dad was professional, I was professional, and unfortunately while trying to get ready to qualify for the Champions Tour 4 years ago I pulled my shoulder. Not what I’d planned.Since that time I’ve been on a bit of a different path, because I had to to survive, but every day that goes by is another day where I’m planning on how to make enough money where I can get back to practicing and playing, to get back to the mini-tours and hopefully the big show. One day…

January in Scottsdale means weather that’s unbelievable, golf tournaments, and car shows. The Barrett-Jackson to be more specific. More than just another car show, this venue brings people from all over the world, (lots of them on their own private jets). Just walking around is sensory overload. You’d think that acres of classic cars would be enough, but if you take a minute to look around at the people, you’ll see a mix like you’ve never seen anywhere. Millionaires and wannabe’s galore. Girls walking around in skimpy skirts and high-heels (worth the trip alone) and vendors selling everything you can imagine from sunglass cleaner to corn dogs.

And bring your wallet. Not just if you want to buy something, but to get in! Tickets are NOT inexpensive starting around $35 each (if you come late in the afternoon) and go much higher. And let’s not forget about getting a beer and a hot dog… Ya, that’ll set you back about $15 bones.

Oh well, enough about the money, it’s not about the money. It’s about the event, and this event is amazing and only second the the Waste Management Open. It has a special “feel” that wraps around you the minute you walk in. Even if you don’t have the money to spend on a car, you can still walk around like you do. You can see cars you drove when you were in high school, and believe me, you will go back in time just looking inside your old car. The way it sounded, who rode with you cruising the square drinking a beer, what girl you dated at that time. How cool it was to do a burnout. Who the gearheads and jocks were. Pulling up to the football game the first Friday you had your car.

It’s more than a car show. Much More. It’s about your youth and the best times of your life.

I happened across this old pickup that was restored and is regularly a winner of the “best of” something at some of the major car shows in the country. I couldn’t help but notice the pride that the owner had in his voice while I was asking him questions about it. You see, he actually restored the entire truck by himself, every square inch of it. And it was truly amazing to look at. The attention to detail that he’d incorporated into it was truly amazing.

Just imagine if everyone did this with everything they did throughout their day. What a world we would live in!
